TTC Group introduces Green Travel initiatives at part of “Net Zero” strategy

TTC Group continually looks for ways to reduce our impact on the environment through a number of initiatives designed to achieve sustainable environmental improvements. As part of TTC Group’s “Net Zero” strategy, we have introduced our Green Travel staff salary sacrifice scheme, which encourages our employees to purchase new, environmentally friendly low-emission cars.

TTC Group has held the ISO:14001 Environmental Management System accreditation for 16 years and has taken significant steps to reduce our environmental impact since becoming accredited in 2005. We are committed to promoting green forms of transport through the use of greener, lower carbon emitting vehicles, whilst encouraging alternative modes of transport such as cycling.

Through our partnership with Tusker Direct, selected based upon their environmentally friendly credentials, TTC Group’s Green Travel initiative has already helped a number of employees fund new, greener personal use vehicles.

Through the Green Travel initiative, TTC Group has full control over selecting the range of vehicles that are available to staff, ensuring that staff accessing the salary sacrifice scheme are only able to access vehicles with a maximum of 100g/km emissions.

In addition, the Green Travel initiative includes a pledge to offset the carbon for every car purchased to make it carbon neutral, offsetting the exhaust emissions of each car against a verified carbon standard offsetting project. This carbon off-setting is one of the key areas that will help TTC Group to achieve its “Net Zero” strategy by the end of 2022. Over 200,000 tonnes of carbon have been offset so far, as well as thousands of trees being planted over the last 10 years through similar salary sacrifice schemes.

To lead by example, several TTC-owned company vehicles have already been replaced with carbon neutral vehicles, with more being replaced on a rolling programme as vehicles age and/or leases expire.

05 - Managing our Environmental Impacts (Blue)

Environmental management is a key part of our business planning and we set ourselves objectives and goals periodically to ensure that we continually improve as part of our commitment to being a responsible organisation. TTC is also externally audited and assessed annually by BSI Assessors, who reviews our Environmental Management practices and commitments, helping our organisation to identify future environmental improvements, no matter how small as part of TTC’s Continuous Improvement philosophy.

TTC Group’s award-winning approach to managing Environmental, Social & Corporate Governance (ESG) also commits our organisation to managing our environmental impact, recognising that technology can help drive efficiencies, whilst minimising any environmental impact.  Recent awards include the “Excellence in ESG” award from the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA).

To support the Green Travel initiative, TTC Group has installed an electric car charging point at our Head Office, located in Telford, Shropshire. We encourage our staff, visitors and contractors to make use of the electric charging point, which also supports our regular suppliers to use Alternatively Fuelled Vehicles (AFV) for their deliveries to TTC’s premises.

TTC Group will also continue to promote sustainable modes of transport such as cycling.  During 2021, we have donated over 250 bicycles to local schools, charities and the Scouts, the vast majority of which were donated throughout West Mercia.  To help encourage younger children to cycle safely and hopefully grow to become keen cyclists, TTC (through our subsidiary company Balanceability Ltd) recently donated 50 balance bikes to local Early Years settings, which will be used to develop key balance skills, the perfect starter for confident cycling.
