All you need to know about getting online

As long as you have some equipment at home, it’s easy to get online. Smartphones and tablets will need to be in landscape mode. But remember, the rules on attendance, engagement and privacy are just the same as if you were in person.

Use the resources on this page to find out how to download Zoom, which is the free secure online platform we use to deliver all our digital courses, as well as everything else you need to know about getting online.

  • A device with a microphone, a front-facing camera, and a stable internet connection (smartphones and tablets are acceptable)
  • To download and test Zoom in advance of the course
  • Your course joining link, or Zoom meeting ID and password (we’ll send you these 24 hours before your chosen course date)
  • A quiet and private room where you can do the course alone
  • An acceptable form of ID (please see your course terms and conditions)

How do I access my TTC online course?

First, make sure you have the right equipment available and that it is working. Any equipment you use must have:

  • A stable internet connection
  • A web camera
  • A microphone
  • Speakers or headphones
  • Enough battery charge to last the full duration of your course

We recommend using a laptop or desktop PC, although smartphones and tablets are accepted. We currently advise against using a Chromebook, as these are not always compatible with the latest Zoom updates.

Now download Zoom onto your chosen device. Use the official Zoom website to download a copy.

Joining your course

Online joining instructions will be sent to you within 24 hours of your course starting time. This is usually by email. Look out for them. If they don’t arrive, check your spam folder and contact us if necessary.

The email will contain a link which you just need to click on to join your course at the time you booked. You will be required to have your camera switched on for the full duration of the course. Please note that the use of blurred or virtual backgrounds is not permitted.

On the day of the course, find a private room where there is no one else present that may cause a distraction, see your screen or hear the course content. This includes children. The only exception to this rule is if you have arranged with us for an interpreter or other carer to be present. They can be in the room with you, but they must register and show their photo ID to the trainer.

Make sure you are settled and connected in good time ahead of your course as late admissions are not allowed. You will need ID to show the trainer.
