Workshop Overview
A physical hands on experience of driving a 4WD vehicle in a variety of environments.
How to safely operate a 4WD vehicle.
Improve a driver’s confidence of off-road driving.
Manage driver risk of injury or becoming stranded through effective 4WD driving techniques.

At the end of the course driver’s will be able to:
Explain the capabilities of 4WD vehicles and their limitations.
Explain and experience high and low gear ratios.
Demonstrate pre off road driving vehicle checks.
Experience driving along tracks, ditches, side slopes.
Experience traversing in mud, sand, water.
Course Outline
Introduction
- Health and safety briefing.
- Introduction to the vehicle.
- Theory of 4WD driving and handling characteristics.
The vehicle
- Identify the controls, systems and components of the vehicle.
- Undertaking prestart checks.
- Preparation of vehicle for off road use.
- Reporting faults and defects.
Practical driving and training
- Assess suitability of ground and route.
- Perform a failed hill climb.
- Drive over mixed terrain.
- Identify the dangers of vehicle recovery/self-recovery.
Course review
This LANTRA accredited course is suitable for all businesses employing staff who drive 4WD off-road vehicles to visit business sites only accessible via unmade roads, tracks or cross country or they have the need for 4WD capability as part of their work and used in challenging environments.
Logistics
We will initially identify the region in the UK where you require the training and match to our nearest training location. It is recommended customers contact us to explore venue options.
Training is delivered on a 3:1 basis., with or without LANTRA certification.
Drivers
Drivers will need to ensure they have their driving licence with them on the day and wear appropriate clothing for inclement weather and muddy terrain.
Basic refreshments are available; however, it is recommended that drivers bring their own provisions. Full joining instructions provided at time of booking.
