Workshop Overview
This mandatory 5-hour course enables Category B licence holders to legally drive AFV goods vehicles up to 4.25 tonnes, accommodating the extra weight of batteries.
The course targets businesses aiming to reduce their carbon footprint by transitioning to alternative fuels like electric, hydrogen, natural gas, or biogas.
Delivered by registered trainers (NRI or NVDIR), it provides a certificate of completion, allowing legal operation of AFVs. On-road coaching and vehicle familiarisation available as an additional programme.

At the end of the workshop, drivers will:

Legally drive an AFV <4.25t on a Cat B licence.

Improve awareness of AFV range and performance.

Understand range limitations and adopt suitable driving styles.

Know how to safely recharge an AFV.

Recognise the importance of AFVs in reducing air pollution.

Recognise the various types of alternative fuel vehicles.

Be introduced to GB Domestic Rules.
Workshop Outline
Introduction
- Driver registration, identification and licence data capture.
- Overview of the classroom session.

AFV Driving and Safety Requirements
- Licensing requirements for driving an AFV.
- Preparing an AFV and its contents for daily use.
- Loading and refuelling an AFV.

- Certification process.
- Completion of knowledge quiz and handouts.

Logistics
Online Delivery
For online workshops our preferred option is to use Zoom or Teams.
In order to facilitate your workshop via our virtual classroom format all attending will need:
- A Computer, Laptop or Tablet
Mobile phones are not suitable to undertake the course due to the size of the screen but are required for the online voting and interaction element of this course.
All devices must have:
- Enough battery charge for at least 6 hours.
- Internet access.
- Web camera.
- Microphone.
- Speakers or headphones.
- Stable internet connection.
In Person Delivery
For real-time classroom workshops, we request that clients confirm they have:
- Internet access.
- A suitable room is available for up to 16 delegates.
- The ability to project onto a clear white wall.
