The UK\u2019s first behaviour change course for drug drivers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

TTC is piloting a new drug drive rehabilitation course in Teesside for people convicted of driving under the influence of drugs, but who are willing to take steps to prevent future offences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This course is currently only available in the Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland areas. A later stage of the project will evaluate the course pilot and develop the syllabus for a potential national drug drive rehabilitation scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By accepting a court offer to participate in the course, drug drivers will learn practical strategies to recognise and change their behaviour and get access to local drug-recovery services. If they complete the full course successfully, they could also reduce the rate of future insurance premiums when they get their licence back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About our pilot course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The course syllabus was devised in conjunction with one of the UK\u2019s leading behavioural change psychologists. Professor Fiona Fylan<\/a> of Leeds Beckett University, specialises in understanding the decisions people make that affect their well-being and how to help them make more appropriate or less risky decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It involves eight hours of activities, including interactive and group discussions based on: the research literature on drug driving and interventions; on theory and research on behaviour change; and, on primary research with key stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants are encouraged to recognise the problems associated with drug driving, take personal responsibility, and learn practical evidence-based skills to prevent re-offending in a supportive, non-judgemental way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This course is only for people who have been referred by court services in Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland<\/strong> following a drug driving conviction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

What is the drug driving course like?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
\n

The interactive workshop is a relaxed and informative mix of presentations, discussions, and activities facilitated by a licensed trainer. There is no court or police involvement. There are no pass or fail examinations, but everyone is expected to participate to the best of their ability and make a positive contribution. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

How long is a drug drive course?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
\n

The full course consists of eight hours taught time, spread over two sessions. Each session starts promptly, so you need to be settled and ready to start at the course at the time stated on your joining instructions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You must show a photo ID in order to attend a session. This must be an original physical document; digital copies will not be accepted. If you do not have photographic ID, you must bring along with you two other forms of identification such as a recent utility bill, bank statement and\/or debit\/credit card. Failure to produce a valid ID will lead to your exclusion from the course.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

How much does a drug driving course cost?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There is no charge for participants. The pilot scheme is entirely funded by the Department for Transport and through Project ADDER, which is a Home Office and Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arriving at your course<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It is vital to be at your course on time for registration. We recommend \u200barriving at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each session of the course to successfully complete the course registration process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Areas covered<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This course is only available to people living in Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland local authority areas who have been convicted of a drug driving offence and have been offered a place on the course by the courts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
